Meet the Team
Joy Culy - Director Triptych
Joy has spent 30 years working in the heritage sector. She worked at the National Museum throughout the 1980s and again as the new museum, Te Papa, opened. Joy gained experience and expertise in many facets of exhibition preparation and planning such as: installation; design; object support and other conservation issues. She was involved with a wide range of exhibitions developed by the Museum for temporary and permanent display as well as with international touring exhibitions.
Joy also worked as a Conservation Technician with the National Library of New Zealand from 1995 to 2002 where she was involved with many conservation and preservation projects including: treatment work; archival enclosure design and production; and mounting and preparation of books and other collection items for exhibition. She was also responsible for operation of the freeze-drying facility. In 2001 Joy had the opportunity to bring her knowledge and experience to the Triptych team. Since then she has been co-facilitator of the training Triptych provides to the Heritage sector where her considerable practical knowledge and experience underpin her natural and relaxed manner of facilitation. Joy also takes a special interest in the design of Triptych’s products, the design of custom-made archival protective enclosures and the design of special supports and mounts. She enjoys the problem solving and design challenges this work offers. Joy is a affiliate member of the New Zealand Conservators of Cultural Materials group.
